Hey there! I'm thrilled to share something I've crafted entirely from scratch—my very own Motion Design project: "Red Dragon" an endlessly looping dragon. I've dived headfirst into this project, driven by my fascination with Eastern cultures and the prospect of China soon surpassing the U.S. economy.
The approach of the new lunar calendar was just the nudge I needed. I called up my buddy Joao Waves for a collaboration: he would handle the illustration, and I'd bring it to life through animation. It turned out to be one of those seamless, natural collaborations.
From Inspiration to Paper
First off, I scoured Pinterest for inspiration that could breathe life into our dragon, but I made it clear to Joao: "dive deep into creativity." I wanted him to feel unrestrained in his creativity, confident that I'd find a way to animate any concept he came up with.
Exploring Techniques
With a sketch in hand, I delved into animation techniques that could vivify our dragon. It was quite the challenge, as I found myself developing new approaches, particularly by programming JavaScript expressions to achieve the desired effect.
Sound Choices
For the sound design, I chose subtle and immersive sounds: from the rustling of a cotton coat to the gentle touch of a ceramic cup, enhanced by the dry crackle of fireworks. And, of course, a special effect for the dragon's blink, adding a manga-esque touch to the animation.
